John Ashbery
1927-
John Ashbery, born in Rochester, New York, in 1927, has written a great many volumes of poetry, including Some Trees, winner of the Yale Younger Poets Prize, Three Madrigals, The Ice Storm, Can You Hear, Bird, Girls on the Run, As Umbrellas Follow Rain, and A Worldly Country. In 1976, his Self-Portrait in a Convex Mirror won the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award, and the National Book Critics Circle Award. He has also received the Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize, the Griffin International Award, and a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship. He lives in New York City and Hudson, New York.
